Quick bio of Shamim Aktar - Head Instructor:
Shamim Aktar 7th Dan - is the head trainer/coach/instructor of Shotokan JKA Academy. He was taught by some of the highest level karate masters in shotokan JKA karate in japan. Current grade by a JKA examiner masters panel consisting of Sensei's Oishi 8th Dan, Kawasoe 8th Dan, & Naito 8th Dan ... some of the highest level japanese instructors to emerge from the JKAWF Japan.
He has over 55 years of Karate & martial arts experience. Inspired by his martial arts hero Bruce Lee in his early years,he has had a passion for karate & martial arts and wanted to become fast & powerful, like Bruce Lee when he was young. He began training in many traditional & modern martial arts,including Taekwondo & Kick-Boxing, of which he is a 1st Degree/Dan Black Belt, (with Master Heel Il Cho's Taekwondo organisation). In his younger years he also took instruction & trained in Aikido,Judo,Jeet Kune-Do,Yang style Taichi Chuan & brazilian jiu Jitsu.
In Shotokan JKA Karate, he has trained extensively with the world's leading JKA karate masters & experts in Japan. Particularly at the Japan Karate Association, JKA, headquarters, in Tokyo, Japan.
Currently,his goal & mission at the Shotokan JKA Academy is to revive the true way of training of the original old school traditional Shotokan JKA Karate masters, as he himself has learned. This can only be done by faithful, dedicated and hard-working karate students.

SUMMARY OF OUR DOJO RULES :
Respect: Treat everyone in the class with respect, especially your sensei, who should be respected both inside and outside the dojo.Also your sampies too.
Self-Discipline : Work on yourself in class rather then critisizing and/or finding faults in others. Let the instructors & coaches do that.
Sickness : If you are sick it is best to stay home & let us know until you recover rather than coming to the class and infecting others.
Washrooms: Use the washroom before the class. Don't keep going to the washroom persistently unless there is medical reason.
Be on time: Arriving late to class is disrespectful, and you should do the appropriate number of push-ups,sit - ups & dorsal raises for the minutes you are late, then wait kneeling by the entrance until the sensei allows you to join the class.When entering the dojo remove all footwear.
Be clean: Practice good personal hygiene, wash your hands before and after class, and keep your fingernails and toenails trimmed. Look smart & tidy at all times in training. You should also avoid wearing strong scents, perfumes, or colognes.
Be tidy: Take responsibility for the cleanliness of the dojo by throwing away your garbage and arranging your belongings neatly.
Don't keep interrupting the class. Any questions should be asked at the end of the session .
Be aware : Of your surroundings and devise a way to avoid unsavoury situations.
Concentrate : No talking to or distracting yourself or others in the class is tolerated .
Be calm: Refrain from violent behaviour and use your karate knowledge for improving yourself and for peace & justice.
Be respectful of others' needs: If you are a more experienced karateka, be sensitive to the needs of your partner, especially if they are a beginner, help & encourage them.
Remove jewelery: Remove or tape over any jewelry that could cause injury.No jewellery is to be worn.
Start and end with a bow: Sessions should begin and end with a traditional formal bow of respect to the sensei for sharing his knowledge & experience, and guiding you in your class towards self-improvement .
Note: All our members are required to learn & abide by these rules. Any member found breaking the above rules may be cautioned,and/or their membership may be terminated.
